Russia is Claimed to Have Shared US Military Intel with Iran

(MENAFN) Russia has reportedly provided Iran with intelligence on US military targets in the Middle East, according to reports citing unnamed officials familiar with the situation. The disclosures suggest that another major US adversary may be indirectly involved in the escalating conflict.

Officials claimed that Russia shared the locations of US military assets, including warships and aircraft, with Iran since the outbreak of hostilities on Saturday.

“It does seem like it’s a pretty comprehensive effort,” one source was quoted as saying.

The full extent of Russia’s support in targeting US forces remains unclear. Reports indicate that Iran’s ability to track US troops had already been weakened less than a week after the fighting began.

Moscow has previously called for an end to the conflict, describing it as an “unprovoked act of armed aggression.”

Referring to Iran’s prior support for Russia in obtaining and sharing intelligence on Ukraine, one source noted: "The Russians are more than aware of the assistance that we’re giving the Ukrainians. I think they were very happy to try to get some payback."

The tension has already resulted in casualties. Six US troops were killed and several others injured in an Iranian drone strike in Kuwait on Sunday. Since the start of the conflict, Iran has reportedly launched thousands of drones and hundreds of missiles targeting US military bases, embassies, and civilian areas, while joint US-Israel strikes have reportedly hit more than 2,000 targets inside Iran.
