Second Phases of US, Russia, Ukraine Dialogue Kick Off in UAE

(MENAFN) A second round of trilateral negotiations involving Russia, Ukraine, and the United States on the nearly four-year conflict between Moscow and Kyiv has commenced in Abu Dhabi, the UAE’s chief negotiator confirmed on Wednesday.

“The negotiation process started in a trilateral format — Ukraine, the United States, and Russia,” Rustem Umerov wrote on Facebook, explaining that the talks will later continue in separate working groups focused on specific tracks. He added that a “follow-up joint synchronization of positions” will take place once these sessions conclude, emphasizing that all efforts are being carried out “within the clear directives of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to achieve a dignified and lasting peace.” Umerov also noted that the president is kept informed on the progress of each stage.

The first round of consultations took place on January 23–24 in Abu Dhabi, also involving US representatives. Washington’s delegation includes Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, who arrived in the Emirati capital Wednesday. Kyiv and Washington described the initial talks as “constructive,” while Moscow acknowledged the positive start but emphasized that “significant work” remains.

The second round is expected to last two days. The Kremlin stated early in the session that it would not issue any public statements about the outcomes on Wednesday. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters that while Russia remains open to a peaceful settlement, it will continue its “special military operation” until Kyiv makes what Moscow deems the “appropriate decisions.”

Peskov added that Russia’s position is “extremely clear” and understood by both Kyiv and the US negotiators, whom he thanked for facilitating the trilateral discussions.
