Russian Strikes Leave One Dead, Dozens Injured in Kyiv
(MENAFN) Explosions shook Kyiv following warnings from US and Ukrainian officials that Russia was preparing a missile offensive, leaving at least one person dead and 24 wounded, media reported.
At least 13 individuals were hospitalized, three in critical condition, after strikes hit residential buildings, a student dormitory, a vehicle service center and a shopping mall across multiple districts of the capital.
The assault followed Russian President Vladimir Putin's order for retaliatory action in response to a deadly Ukrainian strike.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed the toll, writing on Telegram: "The number of injured in Kyiv has risen to 24, including a 15-year-old boy," noting that three remained in serious condition.
Ukraine's Air Force issued a late Saturday alert warning that an Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile may have been launched.
Kyiv military administrator Tymur Tkachenko described a "massive ballistic attack" on the city and urged civilians to remain in shelters.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy disclosed that intelligence gathered by Ukrainian, US and European sources pointed to Moscow preparing an Oreshnik missile strike, stressing that the information was still being verified and calling for immediate international pressure to prevent further escalation. Russian authorities had not commented at the time of reporting.
